(Basic list of events; will be rewritten into a more concise narrative later)

  • A long time ago (need to figure out how long; after the Elf Wars for sure) Mind flayer empire launches an attack on the surface.
  • Unable to defeat the mind flayers' psionic powers, the greatest magi of the age created the shardminds to battle them.
  • After a prolonged war, the mind flayers were defeated and their empire shattered.
  • The shardminds go into hibernation. (With their civilization destroyed, and knowing that the mind flayers may return someday, the magi create artifacts to grant other races psionic abilities. -Write a page for the civilization, move this piece of information there.)
  • Twenty years ago, the first shardmind is seen since the mind flayer war.
  • Since then, their numbers have slowly been increasing. Could their reemergence mean that the mind flayers' return is imminent?

Individual shardminds may or may not remember the war, and those that do remember it to varying degrees. They themselves are unaware of precisely why they have begun to wake up.
