An enormous gate wrought from adamantium and covered with magical runes and sigils, Winter's Gate stands at the northern end of Doth'Candorun, separating the drow prison from the rest of the world. Set into the gate are five massive stone seals, magically enchanted to keep the gate closed and linked with artifacts scattered throughout the world. In the events leading up to the Deity War, two of the seals were shattered, forcing Boccob to magically strengthen the wards.
Winter's Gate is constantly manned by several patrols of soldiers, mostly elven. The Temple of the Warm Embrace also maintains an outpost nearby to keep watch over the gate.
