Centuries ago, a group of humans was approached by a mysterious entity known as the Red Witch, who offered them a powerful ritual that would grant them the strength and vitality of vampires without the taint of undeath. Though the price for this ritual has long since been forgotten, it is known that the humans accepted the gift, becoming the vryloka.
Most vryloka view the Red Witch either as an aspect or avatar of Wee Jas.
