Gremaka was Leardon's wife. She died of old age during Acererak's death curse, and so her soul was trapped by the Soulmonger. When the Soulmonger was destroyed and her soul was still lost, Leardon became distraught. After holding a state funeral according to her tribal rites, he abdicated the throne of Palmheart and began searching for answers as to her fate.

Leardon's search led him to join the Sulter Expedition--led by his grandson, Wyncit--in hunting Acererak. Together they journeyed into the city of Moil within the Shadowfell, and it was during that exploration that he began to hear his wife's voice. Knowing that her soul was close, he refused to turn back, even as they lost two members of their party.

After passing beyond Moil to the Fortress of Conclusion, they discovered that Acererak had gathered countless souls, including Gremaka's, within his phylactery and planned to use them to trigger an apotheosis. The group realized that they had two options: destroy the phylactery, ending Acererak's existence at the cost of all the souls within, or conjure magical sunlight to free the souls and deliver only a temporary defeat to the lich. For Leardon there was no choice at all: telling Acererak that Gremaka's love kept him eternal, he bathed the phylactery in light.
