Silverstone

A large, walled city near a chain of mountains, it was founded by dwarves but later opened to all goodly people. Today it is a cosmopolitan city with many races living together.

The city is comprised of three levels: the Lower City, comprised mostly of residential buildings; the Middle City, comprised mostly of businesses; and the Upper City, which contains the major government buildings, the Temple District, and most of the nobles' houses. A large thoroughfare runs up through the city, passing through four gates. From north to south:

• The Moonlight Gate is the northermost entrance to the city, leading into the mountains.
• The Twilight Gate separates the Upper and Middle City.
• The Midlight Gate separates the Middle and Lower City.
• The Dawning Gate is the southernmost entrance to the city, leading into the plains.

During the Battle of Silverstone in Calendar#Year 2959, the Lower City was virtually obliterated by the aberrations' initial attack. The Challengers of the Unspeakable aided the city guard and the Brightstone Heroes in pushing them back and defeating them. The Lower City has mostly been rebuilt since then, and includes a memorial park to those who perished in the attack. At the center of the park is a statue of five individuals standing back to back: a female dragonborn with a mace, a tall human woman with a bow, a male half-orc with an axe and a longsword, a thri-kreen with raised fists, and a cat-faced woman in a hood holding a staff.

Silverstone is run by a council. Each of the eight major guilds in the city - Alchemists, Artificers, Blacksmiths, Builders, Clerics, Guardsmen, Mages, and Merchants - selects a representative to hold a seat on the council for two years. The council itself is led by a highlord, who is elected by the council from amongst its members and serves for five years. The previous highlord, Elicas Rethan, was a member of the Clerics' Guild and worshiper of Bahamut.
